Can you clarify, what you mean by a custom number? It should work with just about any number as long as you have access to the phone that it rings.

Ok, I will type the number I want to call then a window will pop up asking for my location and my default is my cell phone lets say its 555-555-0000 but I want it to be my toll free 844844444 when I type that I get the errors. I guess I cant use my toll free as my caller ID?

Ring out is not working for me. It comes back saying like the party is busy or no one picked up or something. (its all to fast before it goes back to the dial screen)

Hello Michael,

I will take a shot at explaining RingOut. The most simplest explanation is that RingOut is the ability to use any telephone device to make a call from the RingCentral system and still have your RingCentral number show up on the Caller ID of the person you are calling.

The reason why you can make calls from your Android device is because RingCentral is using the dial tone on your Android device to make the call. Although, RingOut is working in the background.

Since your PC has no dial tone it must first call a telephone device (RingOut) that has a dial tone in order to place the call.

If you want to give your PC a dial tone you have to purchase a Digital Line and assign it to the extension you are using to log into the RingCentral for Windows application. This is only if you have a RingCentral Professional Plan. It works different for RingCentral Office.

If you have multiple numbers with your RingCentral plan then you can change the number that shows up on the called party's Caller ID. You do this in the "Outbound Caller ID" section of your extensions settings. You can also configure the outbound caller ID in the Options of the RingCentral for Windows application.

I hope this help. I know, it took me a while to understand it myself when I first started with RingCentral.

Yes, your 844 number is the number the person you are calling will see on their caller ID.

It is true that the RingCentral Office plans have unlimited local minutes while the Professional plans have limited minutes. But the topic of minutes has nothing to do with understanding RingOut. Please don't confuse yourself by adding topics to the issue at hand. The only reason why I mentioned the RingCentral Office plan was to let you know that Digital Lines are handled/purchased differently than with the Professional plans. If you currently have a RingCentral Professional please don't worry about the Office plans for now.

Setting the RingCentral Desktop App to Use RingOut

RingOut is a feature to mask your Caller ID when placing business calls from another phone such as when you are at a friend's house, rather than making the business call showing your friend's Caller ID. This tool allows you to use a non-RingCentral device for placing the call, and then send your RingCentral phone number as your Caller ID to the party you are calling. It also keeps your real location discreet. You can use your RingCentral Desktop App to place phones calls even without a  Digital Line through the feature called  RingOut.

In addition, if you use the Google Chrome extension, it uses the RingOut option to initiate a call.
