Running RC on Windows 7 32bit

I tried to install Ringcentral on windows 7 32bit , It successfully downloaded but when I went to open up the program, the program fails to run. Is there a fix for that?

Stephen,  This this by any chance just start after upgrade the software version?  This might be a memory/video card issue.

Steven,

I want to make certain that I understand your description. When you say that you "...went to open up the program, the program fails to run." are you saying that absolutely nothing happens when you double-click on the .msi file (or if you right-click and select "Install")? Do you get any type of error message?

Alternately, did it actually install and when you tried to run the program nothing happened?

I'm sorry if I seem to be asking the super basic but you stated you "tried to install" then you said you tried to "open up the program" and that the "program fails to run". It's not clear whether it actually installed and won't run or if the .msi ( Micro soft Installer) file won't run to allow you to even install it.

Also, which version are you trying to install (most current download is v8.4.5) and do you have installation rights on that computer?

Hi Jan, yes the program did install correctly. When I go to open the program it fails to open and gives an error message saying "Ringcentral for Windows has stopped working".

Hi Mike, it's always been an issue and started when I first downloaded the previous version from the current version, so basically its never worked right from the start. I do have Ringcentral installed on another computer which is on Windows 10, it works perfect. If you have some links for older versions that you could pass onto me that would be great.

There are some instances where the video card on older PC isn't sufficient.  You can usually get it to work by rolling back to one of these.

For users unable to use 8.3.6 or above here are the download links for 8.0.6
http://downloads.ringcentral.com/sp/RingCentralForMac-8.0.6.dmg MAC
http://downloads.ringcentral.com/sp/RingCentralForWindows-8.0.6.msi WIN

If Softphone version 8.0.6 doesnt work then download Softphone version 7.5.4 from the links below
 http://downloads.ringcentral.com/sp/RingCentralForMac-7.5.4.dmg  MAC

http://downloads.ringcentral.com/sp/RingCentralForWindows-7.5.4.msi  WIN

Has any version of RC Desktop ever ran on this machine?  Next try to temporarily disabling your security software to see if that's blocking it.

Steven,

I've been doing some research on this and Mike is on the right track regarding a video card problem (in my humble opinion).

With a D3D11 CreateDeviceAndSwapChain error, please check that your GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is compatible with Direct X11.1. Also, since you're OS is Windows 7, please check that you've installed the Windows Platform Update.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2670838/platform-update-for-windows-7-sp1-and-windows-serve...

The above information is where my research led me. Everything I found seems to point to a video/graphics issue, as Mike pointed out.

Disclaimer: If you are no comfortable in performing the information shown in Microsoft KB2670838, please check with your IT personnel or someone qualified. There is a possible "gotcha" mentioned at the end of the KB2670838 entitled, "Compatibility issues on certain computers that have hybrid video cards"

I hope this helps you out.

March 21 2017 - Hi Steven we ran into this exact same behavior on a few Windows 7 32 bit machines in our organization (we are primarily with a few sites on W7 Pro 64bit and mostly the majority are W10 Pro 64bit)  the solution we used was a bit more than most folks would want to tackle but it worked for us. We did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 32bit, making sure to also implement the update patch Windows DotNet fix 4.5.2 and all other Windows Update patches, then put Ring Central for Windows current download v8.4.5 and it worked. These were stock out of the box machines old HP 7900 Desktops with just the video on the motherboard chip, no special video card. I realize it might be a bit of drastic solution, but it worked for us. We only had to re-do a few machines out of the 1000's of machines we run.

I thought I should update you all on this, simply enough all I had to do was update my video card driver and then it worked great.

Steven,

On a side note...your issue became of interest to me since I run two computers here on Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit SP1 and two computers on Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit SP1. None of them have any issues with the most recent version, or any version for what it's worth, with RingCentral Windows for Desktop.
