Deskphone: possible to have different number associated with each green light?

I have a Cisco IP Phone, Model SPA525G. There are 5 green lights. Is it possible to have a different phone number associated with each green light?

Hi Bill,
Did you sort this out? I have SPA508 and want to assign 2 phone lines to the same desk phone. Please let me know how you did it.
Thanks,
San

Hi San,
Wish I could say that RS had a fix, but I had to give up on them many months ago.  If you can get them to help you fix this issue, please advise, because I am sure that you and I are not the only one's with this problem.  As of today, I don't think there is a fix to this issue.

This is on my wishlist as well.  There are instances everyday when I would like to be able to select which number I am calling out on using my desk phone.   After being able to do this with a local PBX,  I'm really missing it now.

Perhaps if we put enough pressure on RS, they can fix this.  I cannot imagine in this day in age that one cannot write some code for their system to accomplish what must be a very simple solution to so many people's problem.

Hi Chuck,

Thank you for looking into this.  Please note that I'm approaching this as a feature request and not a complaint about RingCentral.

I realize that through the RingCentral website, I am able to switch the outgoing caller id between my direct dial number and my main company number.  I also realize that this can be done quickly through the softphone app.  However there are times when I am at my desk and my laptop is in its bag, it's in sleep mode, or I'm not logged into the RingCentral site.  It would be convenient to have one line  button (Line 2)on my Cisco SPA525G2 configured to dial out using the outgoing caller id of my direct dial number while line 1 uses the caller id of our main business number.

Previously, I had this feature on an in-house PBX and used it quite a bit.  If the programmers can work on it for a future release I'd appreciate it.

Dave,
I agree.  Does RC have a uservoice forum?  Do you know the best way to make our requests known?

I will say this about RS..they certainly do have great customer service people, Always polite and super knowledgable.  However, the best way is to call them up and continue to do so until they get the powers that be to fix this issie.  It's going to take some time on your part, but the community would sure be thankful.  Post your results and then we will know what else we can do.

Hey Guys, I was talking to my tier 3 engineer about this issue and here is what information I found out.

The first question I have is what is the goal?  Are you looking to have a certain caller ID number show up on the recipients end?  If that is the case then there are other ways but it cant be done from the phone.

You could add in as Company numbers $4.99 extra per month per number.  Then in the extension assigned to your phone you could choose outbound caller ID, pick the number you want to show and make your call.  You see you will need to be logged in to the portal to make the change before you make the call.

If this does not work for you there is a more expensive option.  Depending on the phone you have and if it is Locked (Purchased from RC or unlocked, purchased from another source) you could add an additional line to your account and we could then manually provision this line with associated number to your phone.

The other caviot with this method is you CANT use the presence feature.  If you have no need for presence and you want to pay more to just activate it from your phone then you have a solution.  If staying logged in to the portal is acceptable you could get away with $4.99 per month extra and a couple of clicks

I hope this helps

Thank you

Chuck

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Can I program multiple desk phones using the same phone number?. I have a phone at my office but I spend half my time working from my home office. Is it possible to program both phones with the same number? I don't want to add another line to our account.

Seeing as I asked this question Two Years ago, I'd say it's safe to assume we will never have the ability to do this, even though it seems like a super simple fix and something that many of us could really use.

I believe you are correct Bill, but I'll try to get a firm answer. I don't think they'll add this feature. It's my understanding that by enabling this it would block other more desirable features.

I too am very interested in this. I do work over the phone with clients in 3 different cities. They can all call me through the numbers I pay $4.99 a month for. However, on outgoing calls I would like to choose the phone number that I call out from so it shows that I am local. The only workaround I see is to use the RingOut service on a different device such as the app on the computer which allows me to select outbound caller ID, and then answer the desk phone to be connected to my customer.

Joshua,  here are a couple links showing the options for changing the Outbound
Caller ID.

How do I change the Outbound Caller ID?

What we do for our numbers is make an extension with a name for that number and connect the number to it. Then, we enable presence and ring my phone when a user monitored rings (depending on call handling), so when someone dials the specific number, we can see which one it is and answer accordingly, or know that we can't let it go t voice mail, etc. This is the solution we use s we don't have t deal with pressing 1 before connecting business or call screening.

I also support this feature request. We already have line buttons on the phone. Why not allow me to select it and automatically have each line be tied to an outbound caller id.

I see this feature being requested over different topics. Would be nice to join them all together to get a stronger request.

To me the main reason for this request is because I own 3 businesses and would like to be able to call from my deskphone showing business a, b or c as the caller id. On the desktop app and phone app I can select my caller id. But on the deskphone I can't.

I asked this very same question over three years ago.  Here we are and we still can't have the most simplest of features.  Not sure if its Ring Central or Cisco's issue, but it damn sure should be fixed by now.

I'll change this topic from a Question to an Idea so that it gets revisited by our Product Team.
