Fax: Bring back, or add additional fields to customize fax cover sheets

With the new desktop app, I cannot see how you can fill out a cover sheet.  Other than filling out the number your faxing to, there's no place to fill in the "To" or "Company" etc.

Yes- I have to use "Fax Out" from the website (long story about why the Soft Phone no longer works for this) and there is no way to edit the cover page.  It looks like it will grab the info from your User Information, but I do not like having my Name and phone number on outgoing faxes as this is not what should appear to the general public.

Almost there on the fax sheet edit capabilities.  Could you please add the ability to remove or edit the name in the header at the top of the page?  We do not want our agent names listed here.

Thank you.

Or at the least default it to {Sender Company} instead of {Sender Name}.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled New Feature Requests for RingCentral for Desktop. Hello,

When faxing using RingCentral for Desktop, RingCentral's pre-loaded cover sheet options auto-populate the "number of pages including cover sheet" field.  However, I prefer using a custom cover sheet and the current RingCentral for Desktop app version will not auto-populate the "number of pages including cover sheet" field for a custom cover sheet.  Please add this capability!

Also, if I'm sending a fax to a number (opposed to someone in my contact list) it won't auto-populate the recipient's name on the cover page.  From time to time when I know I'll only be faxing someone once, I don't want to take the time to add them to my contact list or clutter my contact list with entities I only fax once.  In such instances, I'd like to manually enter the recipient's name.  Similar to the format in the old softphone, please create a "Recipient's Name" field above or below the "To" field, where it can be populated manually.

Thanks!
Scott

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Info does not show up on fax cover sheet.. I downloaded the updated Ring Central for Windows. When I send a fax the "To" field on my cover sheet is blank. I talked to technical support and was told for the recipient's name to show up I must add then to my contacts first. If I'm sending a one-time fax and will never send to that recipient again, why don't you add a field so I can just enter the fax number on the Send Fax screen, like the old system allowed?  This extra step is time consuming and needs to be addressed soon. If not, I may start looking at other internet fax companies.

There are several of ways to handle something like this.  You may want to create a template using MS Word or Excel for your cover sheet and just save it to your computer.  Then in the RC Desktop app, turn off the "include cover page" switch.  Then fill out the Cover Page template on your computer, add it to the fax as an attachment, followed by another attachment for the main fax. If you use this method it would be equally easy to send faxes from your email client as well.

Also have problems with the new app - can't change the company phone number between our local and our 800# on the cover sheet depending on the recipient and can't print automatically to our network printers - they don't display and I can't find out how to add them.

Mike,
I started this thread back in February. I've requested the updated version 7.1.1 twice but still nothing. Please - when will this be resolved?

Hi  Clerk Village of Barneveld ,

What version are you on right now? If you go to Settings > About > Check for Updates,  button  it should give you v 7.2.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled FIX THE COVER PAGE PEOPLE!!!!.

You computer nerds royally screwed-up when you decided to remove a portion of the software that worked perfectly fine.  What good is faxing when you can't even manually enter information into the fax cover sheet?

The reason I'm so frustrated is that I have not heard one single thing from RingCentral in regards to fixing this F-up.  Unlike every other corporation out there today, just tell your clients that you screwed up and you're going to fix it.

Thank you.

-Brian

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Custom Cover letter fields. Looking for a the "Number of Pages" field so that we may create a set of truly unique Cover Letters for our companies. Thought {Number of Pages} might work - but alas, it does not.

We tried {Total Pages}, which was the field name used in the .r0c coversheet files from the previous softphone version 6.x. Unfortunately that didn't work in the new .docx coversheet template either. Neither did a couple of guesses, {Pages} and {Page Count}.

Please do post back if you figure this out... and RingCentral support, if you can tell us how to add a "total number of pages" count into a custom fax cover sheet, please do!

Hi Daniel,  Thanks for this post. I do think this would be a nice feature.  I realize it's sometimes hard to tell what the actual number of pages is because different file types and formats can affect the final fax.  This thread does get a lot of attention by our Product Team so hopefully this is something they can/will add in the future, but there's no ETA at this time.

Mike,

Thanks for the response. Just a reminder: this feature was available in the previous version of your RingCentral SoftPhone's fax cover page. We're not asking for a new feature or enhancement, just to restore functionality that our team has used for quite some time and was removed in the latest version.

Thank you,

Daniel

I understand, from a development standpoint, it's considered a new feature since the RC Desktop and Legacy phone are different pieces of software. None the less, I/we understand the importance of having this feature.   Thanks

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Add destination name to outbound fax?. We still use the old softphone because it let you enter the name of the party you are faxing to. This is important because we fax to many different places at one time, and a fax may come back unsuccessful. The name helps us identify which fax didn't go through. However, the new desktop app does not let you add a destination name. Also, we found that recently even with the old softphone, our confirmation emails no longer show the party name we typed in--only the phone number. This means we have to go look through all the faxes we sent, and match fax numbers with names to figure out who's fax didn't go through.

How do we get the email fax confirmation to include the name of the receiving party again? How do we get this feature added back in to the new desktop app?

Thanks.

We have the same issue with the recipient name no longer appearing in the sent fax status notification email. This causes our staff additional time and labor to investigate failed faxes so they can re-send them. It does not seem to matter whether the softphone version version used is 6.x or 7.x - the name is missing from the email in both cases.

I opened a support case about this issue and am still waiting for a fix. If I get something useful back I'll post it here for you as well.

RingCentral Tier 1 support finally escalated the case to Tier 2 after several days. Tier 2 support responded as follows:

"I would to inform you that we are aware about this request and it's currently being worked on by our engineering team. An internal product tracker: UIA-42204 was already created about this issue and your account will be tag on the said tracker for consolidation.

I will be endorsing your case to our Tier 3 engineers for proper tagging.

Thank you for choosing RingCentral as your communications provider and please bear with us while we are working on addressing this concern."

Tier 3 support then responded:

"Please be advised that this is known issue with the programming and our engineers are still working on this issue. We will advise as soon as we hear back from them."

Note: the support case disappeared from our view when it was escalated. I can no longer view or update the case with comments or attachments in the support portal.

Daniel, depending one what level and department the cases get escalated to they sometimes are not view-able.   Our Product Team continues to work on adding more features and functionality.  The post by Kim below shows the most recent changes which as of this date is  version 7.1.1.

Thanks for moving my post to the cover sheet section, but I have to emphasize that this is NOT a cover sheet issue for us, as we do not use cover sheets. In fact, is there a way for the new app to default to "NO" on the cover sheet? I find myself having to remember to click "no" every time, else a cover sheet goes out on top of our cover sheet, which looks unprofessional.

Our internal software automatically generates cover sheets which have very specific info on them, such as legal disclaimers, the name of the receiving party, claim number, etc. Having to manually type all that stuff onto an RC cover sheet would be very time consuming, so we need to be able to permanently turn off the RC cover sheet function.

Thanks.

Hi Emery,
In response to your question, I researched and found that April 10 was the last day that the "TO:" appeared in the email responses we received for a "Sent" fax.  Looks like RC made a change since then.
However, the emails we receive regarding failed faxes still list the "TO:" name.
