Porting: How does a number transfer work?

I'm trying to port my existing number to you guys but I keep getting this error. :(

"The phone number you entered cannot be transferred at this time. If you still would like to have the number work with your RingCentral service, you may forward your calls from your current number to your RingCentral account."

My number porting request is approved. This number is supposed to replace my main number. Does that mean my account number for login will change to new ported number? When does that happen? Please let me know. Thanks.

Are there any limitations for area codes and/or exchange numbers?
we have numbers with 458 exchange area code 646 and would need to port only some numbers and not entire range. I would assume this should not be a problem. Correct?
