How do I transfer a call directly to someone's voicemail?

Is there a way to transfer a call directly to voicemail for another extension within the group? On our previous phone system, we could do * then the extension and it would transfer straight to voicemail. Can that be done with this system? Example: Inbound call needs to be directed to another employee, but you know they are away at lunch. Instead of transferring and letting their phone ring and ring, can we transfer it directly to their voice mailbox? It saves our time as well as the person making the inbound call.

Hi Danielle,   See the instructions RC Installer posted above. That method should work.

You did not indicate which phones you use at the satellite offices. This support article should point you in the right direction.

Transfer takes place with separate network and provider.

Not sure if it's possible. Have you checked with the other company to see if they have instructions or any commands that might be recognized by their system?

The *0+extension doesn't work on our Polycom phones. Any other way to transfer directly to the voicemail of another extension in the office (when DND is not enabled)?

I have SoundPoint IP 430 phones. I tried the *0 solution and it simply hangs up the phone for the caller. Any suggestions or setting that I may have wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Make sure you are using the BLIND transfer and not just the transfer.  Bline is the only way the *0 will work on this phone.

Try and report back

Thanks

Thank you so much for the quick feedback. I am indeed using the blind transfer. The specific steps I am doing are:

Incoming call...
  1. Answer
  2. Transfer
  3. Blind
  4. *0
  5. 100 (extension's vmail attempting to send call to)
  6. Send

However, it hangs up the incoming caller's line as soon as I hit send.

I have a Polycom, and the steps linked are exactly what I did. (Or, if not, then I don't understand something in the steps). It hangs up on the caller.

It sounds like you are doing it correctly.  Can you go into the account/number that you are trying to transfer to and make sure it's set to receive messages.

It is. Everyone here uses voicemail. Also, I did try on multiple extensions (100, 101, 102, etc.). Each at the same result.

Dan, are you still having problems with this?  I have not found other instances of this or a solution.  You may want to try rebooting the phone and then testing it again and if you still have problems use this link to  Open a Case

If it helps, the process is just slightly different for Polycom and Cisco phones.

  • Cisco: Blind Transfer key | *0 | Ext number

See also: Transferring directly to voicemail on a Cisco phone

  • Polycom: Transfer key | Blind key | *0 | Ext. number

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Just a SIMPLE Forward..... What kind of phone system does not offer a Forward option from a phone?  ANSWER RING CENTRAL... Go figure of all the modern functions, bells and whistles, it takes an administrator of an account to Forward a phone when someone is out of the office for a few days or even a few min.  You can not pickup a phone and dial *72  you can't Press a button...  Nope...  it will take all most an act of congress to do some simple things.  I am hoping some SMART company employee will read this, call me and say all the other employees in the company have no clue and this is how it is done...  until then, this phone company will continue to disappoint.

If you wish to transfer directly to someone's voicemail via the desktop application, just click the Transfer button. On the next screen, just search/enter the person you wish, then click the To Voicemail button.

It would be a great feature addition to transfer to voicemail calls using a softkey or a more simple method.  This is something we do frequently and these instructions are so "un-user friendly" we essentially need a strange cheat-sheet next to the phone.  Transfer-->User--> Voicemail or extension seems like it can be implemented on the Polycoms, right?

Also your support documents site linked above isn't loading at all as of this writing.  Frustrating.

Hi Marion, put a *0 in front of the extension when transferring, this will send the call directly to the voice mail of that user.
