Why can't I make calls using the Softphone?

It's my understanding that I should be able to make calls directly from my Mac using the softphone app. But the only option I have is to use RingOut and then it goes to my cell phone. I could just dial directly from my cell if that's what I wanted to do. I'm sure I'm missing something but can't figure out what it is.

Sue has let the building but I am still here with the same problem. I have the $34.00 package, one digital line and when I try to call out I have to do it through my cellphone like the others. I can't even get the system to ring my softphone!

I know I am ding something wrong but so far nobody has been able to tell me what.
Ihave asked about this for longer than Sue did, but until recently it was no issue. We are expanding now and I am not going to spend more money just so my main operator has to take calls through the desk phone and if I can't send and receive through the computer then it might ot be worth the scost of upgrading..

Did you provision the soft phone on that digital line?

What exact package are you using the Office or professional

Let us know.  I have many customers using the soft phone for calls but you need to be in an office plan

Let us know

Thanks

I called support this morning and got hte following instructions:
1. Open the softphone
2. under the main menu, click OPTIONS
3. in ACCOUNT INFORMATION, enter the phone number, extension and password
of the extension you will use to answer calls
4. Click OK and have someone make a call to your number and extension.
It may never wrk aain, but it works like a charm right now.
I didn't bother to try and call OUT on the softphone. Since everybody always asks what plan you have I presume that those with the basic plan such as I have are not eligible for that feature. I know I have been with RingCentral for almost 8 years ad have never doneit, but I don't make outbound calls thatmuch anyway, so I didn't see any reason to spend an hour on the phone only to find that I can't do it with my plan.

Hi Rachel,  Sorry you're having problems. We'll need to learn a little more about the issue first.  Can you tell us in more detail what is happening (or not happening)?

Do you have the softphone installed on more than once computer?  If so, the procedure will vary a little bit depending on which machine the number is associated with.  You might have to use the RingOut option if you previously installed it on a different computer.

Hi Mike,
I have ring central installed in my office and it works fine and now I'm trying to work at home from my mac and its very on and off with the calls. Sometimes the call will go through and sometimes when I press on the call button the screen will just disappear and go to the call log..and no matter how many times I put in the # and press call it won't. After a few tries it will again. Not sure why its doing this. Could it be the internet connection? I have wireless. Thanks for your help.

Oh also, I made sure to sign off on ring central on my office computer.. not sure if that makes a difference.

Since it's intermittent, that does suggest a possible network/wifi signal issue.  Do you have the ability to plug directly into the router?

Also, since you have the RC app installed on more than one computer, it is OK to be logged in in more than one location, but only one computer will be able to direct dial calls. All other computers will have to use RingOut.  Are you using RingOut on the Mac/laptop ?
