unable to attach PDF

I am encountering an error when trying to attach a PDF file, whether it's via the softphone software of directly through the websited faxing out. PDF files aren't exceeding the 5MB limit. They aren't corrupt-open fine in reader and print fine also. Through the website it just says "Unknown Error. Try again later". But through the softphone software it says something about there not being an application associated with the file and then asks if I want to use notepad-which results in jibberish. I've also tried to print the file directly to the fax printer and it says "file couldn't print". .txt, .jpg and word files all attach just fine. I have 2 days left on my free trial and am set to go ahead and pay for a year, but if I can't fax PDF files, it will do me no good.

Check the name of the file.  Does it have any funky characters?  Like symbols or dasher etc..  I have seen this cause an issue.  Change the document name to something simple and try again.

Let us know

I have the same problem.  I've tried it multiple times with different pdf files and always get that same response.  The file name I'm trying today is:  Etrade ltr 091614.pdf  Nothing weird there.  I end up having to use my E-fax account instead.  I'd like to get rid of that account, but not until I can fax out from RingCentral.

Sheri, I was running Windows 8 on my mom's computer and didn't realize she did not have adobe reader. I just assumed she did since I could open PDF files and I knew she had flash. Apparently windows 8 comes with a native PDF reader that isn't compatible with either the ring central software you install or their online function. When I installed adobe reader it all worked fine. Good luck!

This appears to be a failure when using Google Chrome browser. Uploading file from computer is generally broken in Chrome. No PDFs, Word docs, JPEGs that i have tried are being accepted. It has nothing to do with funky filenames, corrupt files or unsupported file types. Almost immediately upon hitting attach, the same inscrutable error appears "Unknown Error. Try again later". However, all these same files can be successfully uploaded in Microsoft IE and Opera browsers. Lacking time to further investigate, I would next suspect Java enablement. Can RC staff provide guidance?

Do you use adobe reader or acrobat or other pdf programs? You can change the default PDF program by typing in "chrome://plugins/" and enable (my program) Acrobat as the default, it the disables the Chrome PDF viewer, and everything works fine.

I am having this same problem in Firefox and my PDFs are associated with Adobe Acrobat 8. I eliminated all non-alphanumeric characters from the filename, including spaces. It still won't work. I updated my softphone software and am using Windows 7 Pro.

Hello cbuck1,  Can you clarify your issue?  What is the relationship with attaching the pdf and Firefox? Can you describe the steps and the problem you are having?

I just mentioned Firefox because someone else said he thought the issue was related to Chrome. It now looks as if the problem is with the softphone. I'm able to send from my browser. When I try to send the same exact file with the softphone, it tells me that there is no application in the system associated with the file, which is untrue.

Hello.

What version of the softphone do you have?  Make sure it's up-to-date.  Also login a de-authorize the computer (Settings > Phones & Numbers> Softphone > Deauthorize PC).  Then log out, close, and log back in.

Also, make sure you are logged in with your DL + password,  not the main number + extension number.

Let me know.
