i would like to find a way to connect the desk top phone to my I phone hot spot.

i would like to find a way to connect the desk top phone to my I phone hot spot. I have been using a dish to dish internet provider for my phone connection but recently my line speeds and call quality have gone in the tank. I have bypassed my provider with the hotspot on my I phone wired directly to my computer, and am getting 13 down and 7 up speeds. that are much better than 1.4 down and .33 up that i am getting thru my provider. When i wire my desk phone to my computer via the lan cable, the phone will not finish initialization. Any suggestions? It would be nice to leave the router behind and have a fully portable system.i am using a SPA 508g phone from cisco for my desk top.

Hi Mike, definitely not best practice to use the hot spot for the VOIP connection but if you have no other choices. Since the  hot spot is wireless only (I am assuming) you will need an IP phone that has a built in wireless.  The 508G is a hard wired only phone.  You cant plug the phone into your computer Ethernet port and expect it to work.  It just does not work that way.

The 2 ports on the back are used a a switch.  Plug the phone in to a wall jack and pc to the phone.

that is the scenario in which you use it.

the Cisto SPA 525G2 phone has built in WIFI so you could try that phones to see if it works.  Make sure you get a power adapter with it.
