Desktop App: Hotkey Options

In the older SoftPhone application, we were able to set hotkeys for dialing and sending faxes. I used to be able to select any phone number, press Ctrl-Alt-C and RingCentral would initiate RingOut and connect me (select #, hotkey combination, pick up phone and talk -- perfect).

I don't see any way to do this on the new RingCentral for Windows application. It seems now I need to manually dial every number, which defeats half the purpose of having an application on my computer (the other being the easy voice mail access, which works). Is this critical functionality no longer available or am I just missing it?

Yes, thanks. I actually found that shortly after the post. Sorry for not updating. I do still have another related problem, but maybe again I'm just missing how to do it: after I press my hotkey with the phone number I want to call selected, it properly appears in the RingCentral for Windows application. But then I have to hit enter or click on the green Dial button. After that I need to click again on the green "Call" button. I can't even hit Enter again -- I have to click with the mouse. This is a pain after using a hotkey to dial, my hand is never on the mouse. When I hit the hotkey I want at least an option to dial immediately without all those extra steps and especially without the hassle of having to grab by mouse to click on Call.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Colin

Just a long overdue update -- these were real problems, but RingCentral has fixed. There are no longer extra key presses needed. RingOut is efficient now following the HotKey press on a selected number in another app (except that you can't choose to do a Direct Dial through the RingCentral Phone app).

Using the hotkey, the desktop app will use whatever selection is previously made in regards to Ringout or Direct Dial. If you already have Direct Dial selected, then when you press the hotkey to dial the number you have selected in another app, it will dial with the softphone app.

Are you saying that Direct Dial is not an option on the Desktop app, or that you can not switch back and forth after you press the hotkey?

Thanks,
Sam

I'm not certain I understand the question, but this may answer: If I use the HotKey, the number appears in RingCentral Phone. At that point, there is no way to tell it to call that number via Direct Dial or RingOut. Ideally, it would be an easy selection or DirectDial could be one of the "numbers" listed for RingOut.

Unfortunately, instead of one of those solution, RingCentral forces selecting Direct Dial or RingOut in the Settings, which means the choice is always in effect, until the user goes back into Settings to change. It's NOT a per-call option, which is what it should be. Way too cumbersome and not something you can change after pressing the HotKey.

Does that explain the problem?

If you go to Settings > General you'll see two Hotkey options which are by default using F6 for Otugoing Call and F8 for Outlgoing Fax.
