RingCentral for Google RingOut

Yesterday, I installed the RingCentral for Google add-on to Google Chrome, and the UI with the dialpad is now available on my gmail, but it doesn't really work in any useful manner... When I dial any number, my desktop phone rings, but I don't hear anything on my computer headset. If I pick up my desktop handset, the call rings through, but nothing happens on the computer. What's the point of dialing from Google, only to have to execute the call from my desktop phone? I unplugged my desktop phone to see what would happen when I tried to place a call. What happened was that the add-on indicated "Outgoing Call To (812) 334-1515 Calling your RingCentral device", and a pop-up appeared with the following message: "The page at chrome-extension://fddhonoimfhgioghlkiokmofecgdeidb says Request rate exceeded". Furthermore, I had to close Gmail to force the add-on to cease from trying to complete the call. Is this "functionality" a bug, or is it normal operation? (I can't imagine a software developer creating a useless plug-in like this on purpose, so I tend to think it's a bug.) Is anyone else unable to make phone calls on their computer using the RingCentral for Google add-on?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled RingCentral for Google RingOut Option. How can I change the RingOut number for the RingCentral for Google extension?  My deskphone is on my desk (imagine that), but I telecommute quite a bit and would like to have the extension use my cell phone or other device (softphone) to dial.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply. As far as I know, the softphone is only installed on one computer. I do have the mobile app installed on my iPhone.

The mobile app should also ring as long as it's logged into the correct number/extension. Does it ring?

No, it does not.  The only thing that rings is the desk phone.

We have updated the instructions for the RingCentral  Google Chrome extension. It now includes instructions on how to edit the RingOut number which was previously missing, and causing some confusion:  RingCentral for Google Overview

Is there an actual resolution to this? We seem to have the same issue as Steve on both Google mail integration and our Web CRM. Specifically, the softphone will ring if I call in to my extension from an outside phone. However, it does not if I use Google/Chrome mail it will not. I did notice that the call log in Ringcentral online wil show the attempt as "Action" = "RingOut Web" and "Result" ="Busy".

Can you confirm that you've updated the phone number in the Chrome extension?  Also, make sure you are on the most recent version of Chrome and also the Softphone and do an update if you are not. Let us know if you still have problems. I haven't heard of any recent issues so we may need to look closer at your account settings.

I double checked that (a) Chrome is up to date; (b) soft phone is up to date; (c) I am logging into Chrome extension on the right sidebar with the direct phone number (instead of the main line + my extension) and making sure that the "Make Outbound Call With " is also using that direct phone number. This is the phone number in the Chrome extension you are referring to, correct?

Daniel, one other thing you might check is to see if you have 32 bit or 64 bit chrome installed.  If you have a newer pc, you are probably running 64 bit, but, I have had some people tell me that switching from one to the other helped similar problems.

This links shows how to check your version.  http://www.howtogeek.com/199307/how-to-tell-if-you-have-the-32-bit-or-64-bit-version-of-google-chrom...

Also, can you tell us which version of the softphone you are on? We are in the middle of pushing out some updates and might be able to send you a new download link.

Still no joy as of yet. I had 32-bit Chrome and tried the 64-bit Chrome per your suggestion. I have the Ring Central softphone 7.1.4.13446 . I even tried the 32-bit version of the legacy softphone with no luck. Could it be a port issue? Could it be the "please hold" of the Ring Central system? As mentioned, the issue is repeatable: If I call my direct line from my cellphone then my softphone rings. However, if I dial from either the Google Chrome extension or Zoho's RingCentral integration, then the land line rings.

Hi Paul, Do you have the RingCentral Desktop program installed on that computer? if not you'll want to install it if you are using the Chrome extension. The extension is not a full blown phone, but it does provide some added functionality with various Google applications. If you have the Desktop phone installed, then you can answer on the Computer without using the desk phone. The browser extension is not an actual phone so it will require either a deskphone or the softphone to actually make the call.

Steve, do you have the softphone installed on more than one computer?
