basic phone functions

The light above the display screen used to be green and now it's red. What does that mean? Why did is change?

It the CISCO IP Phone SPA 508G. This is a new phone system for me (new job as of 2 1/2 months ago). Can you also tell me where I can find an outline of the basic phone lights, buttons, etc? Thanks.

From what your described, this sounds like the message indicator light. If I'm not mistaken, you can use the arrow keys to scroll through the messages and after you view them, the light turns back to green. If you still need help, let us know.
