Multiple IP Phones for One Extension (home & office)

I have used other IP Phone systems in the past where I was able to assign multiple IP phones to a given number/extension. For example, I work part-time in my home office and part-time in my main office and have two IP phones, one at each location. I would like the ability of logging in / logging out of a depending location and simply have the service follow me wherever I log in.

To elaborate, I have two IP phones and I want to allocate them to my DID. What sequence would I go through to set that up? My understanding is it would require another account which doesn't make sense.

Joel, if I understand you correctly, this is possible - at least with Desk Phones.

Hi Joel, you can do this by logging into your account, selecting the user who want to add the phone to, then click Phones & Numbers > Add Phone > youll get a pop-up window that you'll need to scroll down on and click > Existing Phone.

I was told by support that I would have to purchase something additional, is that the case? Do you have a link reference for this procedure I looked but wasn't able to find in the way of documentation.

Yes,  here's a link with the instructions:  Purchasing an IP Phone or RingCentral DigitalLine from the Online Account

Each phone does require a digital line so yes there's an additional fee. When you go through the process and select the phone it should show the total cost. 

Depending on your needs, if the RC Desktop/Softphone is sufficient, you could just authorize one computer or another and use the Softphone to avoid the extra expense.

Ben you could do this in 2 ways.  Have an IP phone in your office and use the Soft phone with USB headset through your computer at home this will be the same line.  No extra cost as this is built in functionality.

Or have support convert the existing line to a sharred line and then could could provision 2 phones that behave the same.

You need to have the polycom phones for this to work.

The Cisco phones do not support this with the Ring Central Implmentation at this time.

Each device must have it's own number.  So in your situation if you have a device at home and work, you'll need 2 device (SN's) with 2 numbers.  You can set the devices to ring simultaneously in your Call Handling & Forwarding so that you only need to give your customers one number.  The other option is to use the Softphone and deauthorize the PC(under Phones & Numbers--> Softphone --> Deauthrize) between locations, if you use it both at home and at work.

Hi Kim, you could also use sharred lines, if you have the right Polycom phone or with an IP phone at the office and the soft phone at home will work also

With sharred lines you will need the 2 phones

If you just use the soft phone at home then a USB headset and computer will be needed

I am looking into the same thing too.  Have a desktop (yealink) but want to be able to use my computer desktop app to be able to make calls, while not in the office. But it keeps saying need to purchase a digital line.  I don't want to get another number, just use my computer to make calls using the number already have where I don't have to dial that number and pick up to make a call.
