It's not normal for a fax to take three hours, but, at the same time, it's very uncommon to send a 100 page fax. The fax will most likely fail as there is a 20 MB limit and a 100 page fax is probably in excess of this. Also, when a fax is that large, there's a greater chance for packet loss during the transmission which will cause it to fail. When you are sharing a document of that size, your best solution is to use a file sharing system such as Box, or Drop Box as most email systems can't handle file sizes that large either.

If they are sending a fax instead an email we could assume they can't send as fax. If fax is the only option, just divide the document in 5 documents of 20 pages each.

I've previously sent a 25-page fax through email that took 3 hours and 10 minutes to go through. So I would assume the more pages you include, the longer it will take.

I think that still 3 hours for 25 pages it is too long...
Mike, is that the right time for RC to handle faxes that long ?

No, it's highly unlikely that a fax should take that long. How large is the file in MB's ?

If it takes that long, it's probably a network issue between the sender/RC and the receiving machine.

Glad to hear that. Sometimes when you use a "real fax machine" you can't know the size in MB's...

If the fax is large and taking 3+ hours to go through, there's likely some kind of bottleneck slowing things down and if it's excessive, it increases the chances of packet loss during the transmission. Even a small % of packet loss could cause it to fail but, it could still go through.

The particular attachment that I sent was 35 pages and 4MB. I typically see confirmation on 1 or 2 page faxes within about 10-15 minutes.

Yes, that is true, a larger fax will take longer. Internet faxing is a bit different and more complicated than traditional faxing. The data goes through a conversion process where it's sent in multiple packets and then unpacked on the receiving side. Since there are multiple steps involved there are many variables beginning at the sending side, the internet/network in between the sender and recipient, and then again on the receiving side.
