Geographically dispersed offices, VPN & RingCentral

Our consultancy has just taken over management of IT services for a company who uses RingCentral. Our client has three geographical locations, with 6 SIP phones at one site, three at another, and one at the last location. The three offices operate within the context of a VPN. There is no reason for a VPN, other than the last consultant advising RingCentral requires a VPN for its phone network to operate satisfactorily. Since this is a cloud-based service, this surprises us. Bearing in mind our customer has your basic product offering (about 20-25+/- per month), is there a reason why our clients would enhance their service by using a VPN?

Steve, not sure if you are looking to switch providers as Mike works for some one else but to answer your question a VPN is not needed for the Ring Central system to operate.

There may be many reasons the IT company set things up this way but it is not a NEED.

If you are looking to stay with RC let us know how we could help you further or did you just need the question answered?

Thanks
