If you don't take the firmware updates when we send them out, then at some point the phone will stop working.  RingCentral controls the phones through firmware updates, therefore if the phone aren't kept current on the RingCentral firmware they may stop working.  The firmware updates are designed to provide optimal service and functionality.  

I appreciate the response, but that's not the question I asked. I'd like the firmware update applied to my phones and wanted to make sure that would happen with provisioning set to no and upgrades set to yes.

Greg, let's first explain some terms b/c it can get confusing.  If your phone was not set to provision with RingCentral (or have it set to "no"), then your phone would not work at all. The phone has to be provisioned with RingCentral in order to work. 

With that set, if you have the updates implemented to the phone, RingCentral updates will override your personal settings that you've programmed into the phone. RingCentral updates trump those saved and the firmware update will remove those. 

Again, thank you for your response, but my original question remains unanswered so maybe I should be more specific.

1. I agree that firmware updates are important, and I'd like the new firmware applied to my phones.

2. If an occasional firmware update wipes out some of my settings (which seems unlikely) and I have to go back and re-apply them, that's not the end of the world.

3. I did provision my phones initially, and once they were up and running I turned provisioning off in order to keep my settings from being wiped out. My phones are working fine.

So, with all of that being said ... I'm aware that updates are important and I know what both provisioning and firmware updates are. What I don't know, is if the firmware updates will still be pushed to my phone if provisioning is set to off.

The Firmware updates comes from the provisioning server.  So if the provisioning is disabled, then the phone will never know that there is an RC updated firmware available.
