Headset: reduce background sound the handset picks up?

We have a layout that is very open. The handset ends up picking up other conversations close by. Anyway to reduce this range on the handset? I don't believe it can be done. I figured to throw it out there. Thanks

Hello Tom,     What is the make & model?   I doubt there are any settings to change, but we can look into it for you.  Even on some of the higher quality noise cancelling models, you will still hear a fair amount of background noise or nearby conversations.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the quick reply. Its a polycom handset. I looked on back for a model number and the information is in Chinese characters.  Does knowing it is a polycom help?

Is it RingCentral provided or a phone you purchased yourself?  If RC provided, I think not.  If you purchased the phone elsewhere there are settings you may be able to adjust.

However, have you considered using a headset?  Many headsets have adjustments and are specially designed for this type of application.

What I am trying to ask is if you verified your extension is set to voice and fax now?  If it is then faxes should be received as faxes and never ring your phone or go to your voicemail.  If it is not, it would explain what you are describing.  If that is not working there is a problem that RC needs to fix.

If the ext is set to Voice Only then the voicemail will still be received (we can setup a separate feature request for this). The best situation would be for the user to BLOCK the numbers instructed above. :-)

What will setting it to voice only do:

1) will it prevent the fax calls from ringing through to my cell phone?  That would be very good.
2) will faxes result in a message being left?  not great but can live with that

Re blocking fax numbers, there are new numbers everyday so not practical to block

Brandon, I know this is an old thread, but ... I am also receiving several spam faxes from random numbers at all hours, and they either ring to my phone and screech in my ear, or they go to voicemail and screech in my ear.  My number is set up to be fax and phone, but RC seems to be not detecting that these are faxes.

Hey Tom,

This could be due to the nature of the spam fax, it's possible that our system isn't able to recognize it in time to direct it properly. A few things you could do to help give our system more time would be to set your User Greeting and Audio While Connecting.

We have two setups. We use inContact for the call center side but have reg desk phones as well. We do have the headsets with a strong noise cancelling feature. Its just not on the desk phone. Thanks :)

Hi Tom,

There is not a way to reduce the background noise picked up by the microphone on the Polycom handset. The headset option would be best (if possible) for your IP desk phones since the headset will provide more options.

Thank you!
