Does computer need to stay on? Will phones work in Sleep mode?

New user here and I can't find the info. Can you not shut the computer off over the weekend, at night? Will the phone not work when the computer goes into Sleep mode? Currently trying to use a VVX310. This is currently the only desk phone in the office. Other users are on cell phones.

Al,

Your computer and VVX310 are separate devices, and the phone is not dependent upon the computer for it to make/receive calls.

You can shut your computer down or put it into sleep mode and continue to use your VVX310 separately.

The VVX310 will require an internet and power connection in order to function. Plug the phone into your network access point with the ethernet cable. If your network is not Power Over Ethernet capable, then also plug the phone into power with the AC adapter as well.

Once the phone has a good internet and power connection, you should be ready to use it.

Regards,
Derrick

The only thing the pc controls are the apps installed on it. RC service continues to work and follow what you have programmed

We currently can only plug the phone thru the computer. Router access cannot happen and still have the phone on my desk. The router is in another room across the building.

Do you have a setup where the ethernet connection from the wall drop is connected to the phone and the computer is then connected to the phone, you should have no issue.

Here's a simple diagnostic solution....If you have a dual network card in the computer you can always test it, which should only take the same amount of time of rebooting the computer.

Try putting the computer in sleep mode or turn it off. Then try to call your extension (your VV310 phone). If it does not ring then you will know. If it does, you're good to go.

If the above suggestions do not work you can also look at purchasing an inexpensive switch (a four port should cost less than $50). It will act like a network splitter for you. You would be able to plug your computer and the phone in with no connectivity problems. It literally takes two minutes or less to install a switch. Just another idea for you depending on the outcome of your diagnostic test above.
