Pause Command disable when RingCentral is active window

U.S. business account

Currently, if Ring Central desktop application is the active window (the window is selected, or the incoming call popup is active), the "Pause" command will not work.  This means that if a call comes in, I have to manually switch to the application playing music, then switch back to the RingCentral popup, and then answer the call.  If I don't do that, then music is playing over the headset when I answer.  Is this intended functionality?

I need to be able to execute the pause command without switching windows in order to efficiently pause music and answer a call.  If Ring Central assumes control over the F-Keys, could it run the pause command when the answer button on the popup is clicked?

I have ensured that I have no other keyboard commands mapped in Ring Central to the keys I am using to pause the music. I have observed and replicated the issue both with the Ring Central desktop application, and with the pop-up.

I have a Logitech K740 with media controls build into the F10-F12 keys, and I normally am running the Spotify desktop application. My OS is Windows 7. I am running the latest version of the ring central desktop application.

The RingCentral app doesn't have any way to control other applications on your computer, or assign hot keys to those apps.

First, take a close look at your keyboard. Almost all newer keyboards have media controls right on them. There's probably a pause button you can select.

Also, you can visit this page which shows   Spotify keyboard shortcuts.

I understand. The keyboard I'm using has a medica jey built in (Fn + F11). This shortcut pauses music at all times, no matter which window is active, except when RC desktop is the active window. That means that in some way, Ring Central does have control over the function keys. This is important because when a call comes in, that is when I want the shortcut most

Hello Truman,

When you have the RingCentral for Windows as your active window all inputs on your keyboard are directed to the RingCentral app. Pressing Fn + F11 on your keyboard will enter that button press into the RingCentral app. Since there is no button press associated with F11 on the RingCentral app nothing happens.

Your PC is not able to distinguish between which shot cut keys you want to be applied to the Spotify app and which you want to be applied to the RingCentral app. It simple applies the button press to whichever app is your active window.

I definitely understand the annoyance of having to switch to Spotify, pause the music, then switch back to your RingCentral app before you are able to answer a phone call. The link below will walk your through creating a request for this feature in future App versions.

How do I submit a request for a new Idea or Feature?

Thanks!
