Admin: swap phone? Change number?

What are the proper steps, as the account admin, in the proper order to take when you have a new Ring Central user that will take over and use a past employees desk phone?

I would suggest you do the following:

1) Rename the phone (if necessary) in phones and devices
2) Create a new user without a phone for your new user
3) Find the renamed phone and assign it to the new user

If you want to change the direct number you can do so from Phones & Devices for the phone in question

You can now disable and delete (if necessary) the old user.

Thank you Brian, that sounds about what we did last time after having issues with other steps in the past. The one other funny thing then that happened as on the new users computer I installed Ring Central for Windows, logged in as her and the picture of the past user came up. So now that I think about that I think my teammate told me to just change the user account to the new user also. So from now on we won't do that, just remove their account. Any suggestions on that to make sure we do it correctly?

Yeah, creating a new account for each user is best practice.  That way you don't have lingering settings and messages.

So to remove an account, first MAKE SURE you move the phone to the new account.  Next you can disable the old account, and once disabled, delete will be an option.

So to put it in correct steps now is this correct?

1.      Rename the phone (if necessary) in phones and devices

2.      Create a new user without a phone for your new user

3.      Find the renamed phone and assign it to the new user

4.      To remove old account, first MAKE SURE you move the phone to the new account. Next you can disable the old account, and once disabled, delete will be an option.

If you want to change the direct number you can do so from Phones & Devices for the phone in question

You can also just as easily unassign the phone (Phones & Devices | Assigned To: | Unassign Phone). The phone will then be available under the Unassigned Phones for any new user.
