Canada: how user's can call a Toll Free for a conference call?

Account: Canada
Business: We are a non-profit NGO
Idea Description: We have users that do not / cannot pay long distance to join a conference call. We need a way for them to call a toll free number (billed to us), or as a work around, we need to be able to conference more than 2 users on our phone system.
Use Case: We would be able to include all participants in a conference call.
Benefit: If we had this feature, it means we wouldn't have to switch back to our old conference call provider.

Brad, I work in a NPO in Canada as well.  Here is what our work around -

  1. Create a toll-free number within RingCentral
  2. Than set up call forwarding, to one of the local numbers.
  3. The caller then just dials the TF number that you set up.
We've done that - does that help?

Rob, how did you do this? I created an 888 number but when I tried to forward the main number it said I cannot do that will toll free numbers. I then assigned the 888 number to an extension and tried to forward that extension to a local conference number, but that doesn't work either. Thanks, ... Brad

Brad - increase the number of rings for the Conference Line to around 30 (above 20 to allow time for external routing), then go into Incoming Call Info and set Play Announcement to Never.  If this is not set to "Never" the external line will need to Press 1 to connect the call...which they won't do b/c it's a conference line.

Try these changes and let me know. :-)

Sorry for the delay Brad, I have reached out to RingCentral, and ask them to reach out to you to set this up, and advised them how we set it up on our account.

Perfect, setting Play Announcement to Never worked like a charm.  This has added a really useful feature for us.

Thanks to Kim and Rob!! :)

Hi Brad and Rob,
I've just set up a 888 # with ring central with the understanding that I would automatically have a toll-free conference option.  My account exec has told me that the feature to do this is $4.99/mth extra and told me to call the support line to get it connected.  I"ve been bounced back and forth at the support line and no on e seems to know what the heck I'm talking about/asking for.

So, if I do what you've done above, does it affect how others interact with the number?  If i forward it to a local conference line, what happens when the selected time and date of the conference ends...?

I would appreciate your help with this--i thought this was the key feature I was getting with Ring Central so now really annoyed this has become such a process!

Cheers;
Leah
