Desktop App: Remote Audio & Mic

I ended up needing to work from home today, so I tried using the RC Windows app while using Remote Desktop from my laptop to connect to my work PC.  Since I didn't bring my Plantronics headset home with me, I had to use a Sony wireless USB headset instead (plugged into my laptop).

When remotely connected like this, I could only hear the audio from calls, but the other person couldn't hear me.  Looking at the audio settings, Speaker and Ringer were both set to "Same as System (Remote Audio)", and Microphone was set to "Same as System".

Is this issue with the microphone is simply because I'm not using an approved headset, or would it happen regardless of the headset I use?  If the latter, I'd like to request that the feature be added to allow remote microphone capabilities when remotely connected to a computer that uses RC Desktop.

I was running the app on the computer I was remotely connected to, and my USB wireless headset was plugged into my local laptop.  With this setup, I could hear the other person talking during a call, but they could not hear me.

I was able to get it to work by downloading & running the app on my local laptop, but it came with the inconvenience of not being able to easily see the HUD, and didn't want to have to minimize the Remote Desktop window to see if anybody else is available to answer the call before me.

Are you running the RC Windows app on your local computer or on Remote Computer?

If it works locally just fine the issue could be the remote server not handling your microphone.  It could be a limitation on the server your Remote Desktoping to and not so much an RC Windows app issue.  Our Remoter servers do not support any audio because we don't want multiple users streaming video or music and slowing the server down for other users.  Which is why most organizations limit audio capabilities.

I also don't believe RC windows app is supported on servers.  At least not last I worked with RC about installing on a server.  You can only have 1 instance running at a time on a server.  So if others log onto that server and try to run it you'll have issues.

So just check with our IT guy if he set up our remote access to allow remote mic permissions?

That is where I would start.  The icon/shortcut you use to connect has some settings as well that may play a role in as well.

By default the microphone feature is disabled in Remote Desktop connection.
