Polycom VX410 is the phone. But I was transferring via softphone on my computer. I attempted to transfer one extension and since they weren't answering I tried to get the call back to transfer to a different extension but had not options showing.

Check page 21 of this user guide:  https://netstorage.ringcentral.com/guides/rc_for_desktop_user_guide.pdf  It does indicate you can do a warm or blind transfer so I would think if you do a warm transfer you should be able to cancel it and return to the caller to try again..

The process I've been using is on the softphone, I click on the warm transfer icon...when I try to retrieve call I click on the call holding (originating caller). That resumes that connection and puts the call I was transferring to on hold. But there is no icon to retransfer.

Yeah, you are correct.  I just played around with this and can't find a way to forcefully disconnect and return either.  The best I could come up with was if the person you are warm transferring to answers and says they don't want the call you can ask them to hang up and then you can go back to the original caller, take them off hold and try another transfer.

What kind of phone?  Typically, you can press the line appearance the caller is holding on to go back to them and then transfer someone else.  Of course, this would have to be done before completing the transfer or letting it go to voicemail.

I am not using the softphone currently so can't test right now, but when you transfer via softphone do you hear the phone ring or the person answer you are transferring to the first time?  I wonder if the softphone only does blind transfer and in that case you cannot pull it back.
