I like to support any good idea to be implemented by RingCentral. Having said this, what would be the benefit to knowing a fax is coming in (your idea) versus receiving a notification that you just received a fax (already a RingCentral functionality)? You wouldn't be able to stop the transmission and I don't understand what just seeing an indicator that you are receiving a fax would enable you to do, or not do.

Can you clarify or explain your idea or needs further?

By the way, your forum name of "RingCentral Inc" could be VERY confusing to others reading the forums...thinking that you ARE a representative from RingCentral. I would recommend changing it to something else (just my humble opinion).

Hello Jan,
Thank you for your interest in the idea that I posted.

When there was a fax sent from a conventional fax machine to the Ringcentral Number assigned to a desktop application, the app rang and there's no way of knowing that it was fax coming in. It would be nice to have an indicator that it was ringing because of a fax coming in  and not an actual call.

Maria,

Hmmm...that's a strange occurrence. I just tested this myself, sending a fax from a conventional fax machine (multi-use printer/scanner/fax machine) to my direct dial number as I was logged into the Windows Desktop app (latest version) with that number. It didn't ring for me and the only sound I received was the "Message Received" sound that indicated that I had a new fax (showed up in my tray as well).

I have never received any ringing when receiving a fax, but then again I have never known how the fax was being sent. But, in my test today, I know that it was being send from a traditional fax machine.

The only other thing I can think of is that the number you are referring to is a voice-line only. However, if you are actually receiving faxes, that probably wouldn't be the case.

This is sort of a strange one Maria. The only thing I can think of is there is something specific to that sending fax machine.  When our system hears the fax tone/handshake, it shouldn't ring the phone. There must be some sort of delay in receiving the fax tone from the sending machine.
