An option to leave a voicemail or wait for a person?

Is there a way when a customer calls and we're on the other line for them to have the option to leave a message or stay on the line? However, we don't want the connecting message in the beginning. In a perfect world it would ring, and if we're on the other line, the option message would play.

there may be a way to tell them to press (whatever number you choose) and have that number be a messages only mailbox and then alert you and your email that you have a message. hopefully someone can confirm or deny that information / suggestion.

Chris,

But it you do it the way you suggest, it would NOT have the person continue to hold. It would have them leave a voicemail which would notify you. That's not what Morgan is looking to accomplish. He doesn't want the caller to have to leave a message or hang up...he wants them to stay on hold until he's available.

There is functionality in RIngCentral that will work similar to what you are asking for. If you use Call Queues, you can have an interceptor message that will allow that and you can set it to the number of seconds that you want it to replay. It does not come up initially.

yes, you can do this by setting up an IVR menu with a message for them to press 1to continue to hold or press 2 to leave a message.    you can turn off the connecting message and just play music while on hold.  So the caller would just get forwarded to your extension if they press 1,  if you don't answer within the set time, then forward back to the IVR menu,  and back and forth until you answer, they hang up, or leave a message.  I have set this up before.  I have also used an extra user extension to forward to the actual phone number repeatedly (ie. enter the same user phone number in 5 or 10 times) so the the caller can listen to music on hold and wait for longer than the max of 75 sec, until you answer.   Let me know if you need help setting this up

Hello Morgan,

If this is a direct call then there is no way to give the option to the caller other than in the connecting message before the call tries ringing your line.

You can do an interrupting message if you use a call queue. This would not really be a feasible option if the calls in question are direct calls.
