A bug in "Forwarding" / "Advanced".

Hello There is a bug in the advanced section of the Call Forwarding feature:

When I add the contact name "Test" it comes back as numeric values.  It says "Type Phone Number or contact name:" but when I type in "Test" it converts it to the numeric counterpart, namely 8378.  Please see attached.

Not sure why the screen would say "Type Phone Number or Contact Name" if you couldn't create rules for specific contact names.

This would be very important for those who might want to forward all calls from "Bob Smith" to a specific extension.

The field is for TN only.  The reason it says "or contact name" is for those people you have in your contacts.

Danno is correct. If you have someone in your contacts as you type the name it will match the letters, as you type them, to names in your contact list. You can then select the appropriate name and number from that contact. Otherwise it uses whichever telephone number you enter.

Is this limited to the "internal" contacts list (company) or does it include the "external" (personal) contacts list?

It is a very limiting feature if that is the case.  Since RingCentral captures the Caller ID anyways, I don't know why you would be limited to just contacts.

You're NOT limited to contacts only. As Danno and I previously stated, you can type in any number as well. It's just that if you start typing a name, IF that name is in your personal contacts, it will allow you to select that name. Otherwise, type in any other number and it will accept that number. It just won't allow you to type a name that is NOT in your personal contacts (i.e., Test) and have it "create" a personal contact from that.

Yes, I understand the logic behind the function, its just that my point is that it is limiting, in that it only works with contacts and not works simply with the Caller ID.

I own a software design company and I might simply dispatch my programming crew to make a caller app that forwards specific numbers to specific numbers.  At that point I just as well add in messaging, notifications, call recording, announcements, hold music and other useful features.  But then I will need to sell it to recoup the programming expense.  But then I will end up being a competitor of RingCentral.

I will make a fortune charging $5 a month for the app to assist millions of people bombarded with constant scam calls.

Well, hopefully you will expand the feature to also work off Caller ID before we embark on the task next week because I DO have the money and resources to pull this off in 2 months or less.

take care,
tom

Tom,

For the record, I am not a RingCentral employee. I am a RingCentral Partner/reseller who helps out in these forums.

I also am a software developer and own a company where we create Law Enforcement database applications and have been a RingCentral client for many years.

More power to you if you can write such applications. There's no monopoly on great applications or SaaS.
