It would be great to have inbound caller id by name and not the number or to have both.

It is important for client tracking and SMS tracking to have a name associated with the number of a caller or texter. I would like to have inbound caller id by name of the person.

HI Colleen,  note that the underlying technology of SMS does not include any caller id data, only the sending number.   So any caller id you see on any cell phone, or in any app, is performed by your device/app performing a cross-reference of the incoming SMS number with your saved contacts.  So in the case of RingCentral, you would see a caller name in the RC mobile app if you have saved contact with the same number in your device (ie. in your cell phone contacts)  OR if you have a saved contact in your RC account contacts.   So providing caller id is essentially not a feature that RC can improve on, but rather something you can improve by keeping your saved contacts up-to-date.   Also note, that because of this technical issue of SMS, you should not rely or expect a recipient of your sent sms texts to see your name as a caller id.   We always sign our text sms messages with a short name ("........ - myname") if we are not 100% sure the recipient may not have our contact info saved on their device.

For voice calls this is different, incoming calls always do have some caller id information, depending on the originating caller's carrier.

Hope this helps a bit
