Desktop App: Integration with Outlook like the Legacy Softphone had

"I would like to submit a feature request to put back the old "integration" functionality within the RC Softphone app, since there is no reason I should have to synchronize/import my contacts into RC to gain this functionality.Previously I could use my Outlook address book within the softphone without having to fully integrate and import my Outlook contacts. I see an option for "Import Outlook Contacts", but am assuming that will bring all of my Outlook contacts into RingCentral vs. just allowing me access to them from within the Softphone." -Marc Bressman

Hello Diedre,

There are two options. Which one you need to use depends upon how Outlook is installed / available on your computer.

Option 1: Outlook is installed on your Windows machine. Then you'll want to use the appropriate Outlook integration based on the type of computer you have. You can visit this URI ( https://www.ringcentral.com/office/features/outlook-integration/overview.html) and choose either the 64bit or 32bit version to download. (there are instructions to help you identify which version you need to download)

Option 2: Outlook available via Office365. In this case, you'll want to use the Office365 integration available in the RingCentral App Gallery:  https://developer.ringcentral.com/app-gallery.html#/app/office365

Hi Mike. I'm trying to install Outlook and I can't seem to find it here:
https://developer.ringcentral.com/app-gallery.html

That link was linked out from this site:
https://www.ringcentral.com/office/features/outlook-integration/overview.html

Hope you can help. Thanks.

Hi  Dierdre ,

Outlook is something you have to purchase and download directly from Microsoft, or most department stores and electronics stores sell the software on CD.

Thanks for the prompt response, Mike.
Oh, I meant RingCentral for Outlook, not Outlook.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled RingCentral Meetings Outlook Add-In. I did a search and couldn't find anything about this and had a few people in my office ask me about it.

We're switching some of the people from join.me to RingCentral Meetings and they've asked about an Outlook add-in so that they can open up their calendar in Outlook and create a New Appointment and then click on a button that will add the appointment to RingCentral Meetings kind of like how Join.Me has an add to Join.Me button where it creates the meeting code.

Has there been any talk about an add-in like that for outlook so that people don't have to open the RingCentral Meetings program every time? It would also make it easier so that they don't have to open the calendar and see when they have free time and then switch to the meetings program and create the meeting and send the invite from outlook.

Thanks. Is there any progress on getting the RC system to accept a contact upload of over 10,000 so that their name shows with the caller id when they call in?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Integrate with Outlook. We can't use the desktop app because we're on a terminal server. We can install it on every user's desktop, but the app behaves as if it's a single instance; i.e., when a second user tries to log in to the app on their own desktop, the app recognizes the first user in another session as being logged in and won't allow the second login.

Our end users can use the website to configure their extensions, and they use desk phones to make calls, but from the desktop we can't text (which is what we really want since 3/4 of our employees are in the field) or integrate with Outlook.

We're not alone in using terminal services ( http://www.computerweekly.com/news/2240233145/Whats-driving-the-adoption-of-desktop-as-a-service). Are you going to develop a TS version???

Thanks!

Is there any way to dial straight out of Outlook? RingOut is not an option, nor desired in this situation.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Desktop App: Bring back outlook sync. In the "old" softphone (version 6.04.001.50) you had the ability to automatically synchronize contacts from outlook to Ringcentral.

In the "new" softphone (version 6.62.10219) the ability to synchronize seems to have been replaced by the "import outlook contacts" option. This is fine if you're only ever using the softphone, but if you rely on synced contacts for caller ID or for easier-to-understand call logs -- you're out of luck.

The problem is the "import" does not sync the outlook contacts to the RC account. You're not getting names, just the phone numbers. And, equally problematic, if you had been syncing contacts in the past you'll now get both your RC contacts and your Outlook contacts displayed -- so your softphone contacts are nearly all duplicated.

This also seems to have been taken out of the new outlook plug-in. I can't imagine why a decision would be made to take away such a feature without even attempting to replace it with anything comparable.

You HAVE to bring back the synchronize contacts feature. This is a big deal. As it stands now I am forced to shutdown the new smartphone and and open the old smartphone every single day just to sync contacts -- which was all automatically done in the old smartphone. This is a huge step backwards in the new smartphone app.
