Block or Text 5 Digit Numbers

I'd like to be able to block these type of numbers. We receive 1-2 SPAM messages a week from 5 digit numbers.Note: This conversation was created from a reply on: Unable to send SMS to a 5-digit number.

I don't have a 5 digit number to test this with but have you tried blocking the number according to these instructions?

I did block the number, however, when I entered the 5 digit number, the web portal inserted a 1 before the number. I will have to wait and see if the messages stop.

Saadet,

Got another text message from '25102' today. When I checked our blocked numbers, '125102' was still there in the list. I deleted it, and tried entering '25102' but, the webportal automatically added the '1'.

Is there a work around to remove this default "1," from being added to your blocked number in your blocked list?

Hi list updates weee a year ago. I literally received 2 text messages from each of the following numbers: 91593, 53294 within the last 20 minutes. Ring Central doesnt allow me to send stop to the numbers. Please assist and prioritize the limitation to allow texting to short codes. What is the status of this in the dev queue? Thank you.

So when I've done it, the softphone says the number IS blocked but the messages still come in. I've had over 600 from the same source in the past year and its been almost 3 years since I first asked to have it addressed. It seem completely ridiculous that we are still struggling with this.

Have you tried blocking it from the softphone itself as well?

Does NOT work to block the 5 digit codes. I'm getting them DAILY now. This needs to be fixed so we can text to 5 digit numbers and reply STOP so we can be taken off their spam marketing lists.

I agree...I do not need a home warranty three times a day or texts from a 5-digit number to "Jameson" about what is going on in the world. I can not disable text messages because some are actually legit. I am just the admin and I will not put RingCentral on my personal cell phone. Blocking the number automatically puts a "1" in front so that is no good. This needs a solution please, it has been way too long to figure this out.

Is there an update for this problem? There is no way we have found to block SMS Text spammers in the Ringcentral desktop app if the spammer's number contains 5-digits. Attempts to add them to the block list are rejected with a message that "extension numbers that cannot be blocked." Apparently, only numbers containing 6-digits or more can be blocked.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled block SMS from short code. It does not appear to be possible to block SPAM SMS messages sent from a short code (e.g. 78645). The block icon does not appear when displaying the message in the windows application like it would for a text from a regular number and when you try to add the short code to the list of numbers in the settings window it does not accept the number and displays the message "Extension numbers cannot be blocked". It doesn't work on the website either. It adds a 1 to the short code (178645).

Is there any update to this issue. It's become a real problem for us. The 1 is inserted so you can not block or even send back a "stop" instruction.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Feature request: SMS messages to 5 digit numbers. Feature request to allow messaging to 5 digit numbers. If sending a message to an external number put OUT## infront of the 5 digits to route the call to the outside instead of thinking it is a local extension.
this feature would help remove the promotional messages or spam that a lot of users have. and it prevents just blocking the number from the gui
