This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Idea: Swap phones for limited extensions. It would be very helpful if we had the ability to swap Limited Extension phones, the same way we can swap other phones on the account. 
Currently Limited Extension phones do not show up in Phone System > Phones & Devices; the way other phones do. 
However, if limited extensions phones did show in this area, it would make swapping the physical hardware a lot easier.

This feature appears to have been fixed in 9.3 
Limited extensions can be managed under Common Area Phones, and they are able to be changed and swapped just like other user phones.

Customer wants to add this feature to the phone system as they wants callers to be routed to a external or forwarding number in case the call volume is high and callers reach the maximum waiting time allotted by the system. This feature is very essential to the company as they do not want the callers not go directly to Voicemail and insteaad be routed to another number where someone can take the calls for them.

There are customers that have many inbound numbers that get forwarded to IVR menus through custom rules in the Auto-Receptionist (think all the Chili's accounts with Brinker). The inbound numbers are listed as company numbers simply so they can have different custom rules for the available and off-hour times.

It would greatly simplify the call flow if IVR menus were able to set different rules for available-hours and off-hours. This would allow a number to be tied directly to the IVR, which would save the company from creating literally hundreds of custom rules in the Auto-Receptionist. The phone admins could then choose different keypresses for the IVR's available-hours and its off-hours.
