Increase to the fax messaging limit.

We recently had a support ticket open to investigate issues with receiving faxes. We were informed by the support agent our issues were due to the unread fax messages limit. The support agent informed us we could post here to request an increase to the 200 unread fax limit.

Can you explain what issue you were experiencing?  My understanding is that there is a 200 msg limit for each of fax, voice, and text messages, but the only affect we have seen is that we cannot access old messages because they are auto-deleted.  Are you experiencing any other issues?

We were experiencing 'Partial received' as errors for faxes and some faxes that were sent to us just didn't show up. The RC support agent we talked with seemed adamant that because we had hit this message limit on our main extension, that this was the cause of our issues and pointed us here.

Our understanding of why this became an issue is because we forward our faxes to individual users when we receive them. So our main extension would never mark these faxes as being read. Since RC only auto-deletes faxes that are marked as read, they were not being removed.

We have never marked our faxes as "read" in over 3 years and they are being auto-deleted by RC regularly.  We should get RC's auto-delete process confirmed so that we can work with it better though.

We noticed that if you login to the web portal and view messages, the total number in the Inbox seems random.  But from what we have observed it looks like, but we don't have a confirmation yet from RC, that:

- once a day, the "Inbox" is checked and if it is over the 200 limit, then entire days worth of messages are moved to the "deleted" folder (ie. we never see messages in the Inbox and in the Deleted folders from the same day)

- all messages that exceed the 200 limit in the "deleted" folder are permanently deleted and not accessible.  (ie. we notice that the "deleted" folder always has 200 messages in it)

In our case we retrieve all of our fax messages using a custom program that connects to our accounts using the RC API (ie. we don't use any RC apps/programs/web to retrieve our fax messages).  This approach does not mark any of our messages as read.  (We have confirmed this by logging into the web portal and reviewing our fax messages).   We need a history of more than 200 messages, so we auto-download all of our fax messages into a separate database service so that we can maintain 6 mths worth of fax messages (for us thats about 30,000 messages)

Bottom line is the "Partial Received" errors may be getting caused by something else?  Have you tried marking all your faxes as read AND confirmed if this error has significantly decreased?

Also note, that if this "read" issue is having an effect on incoming faxes, a work-around is to set your "Notifications" for your faxes to "send an email notification" + "mark as read".  You could send the notifications to a dummy email account that auto-deletes them?
