Traveling! Will my Desktop App or Mobile app work in a foreign country?

I was traveling in United Arab Emirates last year and found out that the government blocks RC and other VOIP software.  Is the same true in Saudi Arabia?  Will I be able to use my softphone there?

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Mobile App: Will the mobile app work the same if I am out of the country?. Mine is a US account, and I will be on a trip to Asia. Want to know if I can still receive and send faxes, and possibly making calls while I am in Asia. Any recommendation from the community?

Hi Romy,

As a general rule, the RingCentral mobile app and desktop app will work just about anywhere you have a quality internet connection.

However we can't make any guarantee that it will work in any foreign country.   Some countries (and some hotels) purposely block all VoIP services in order to force people to use their own telecom providers. The best thing to do is try and research on the internet for the area you are going.  Perhaps another Community member will also chime in here.

Hi Mike, I saw you merged my question to this topic, but my question relates specifically to charges, and not to accessibility. When I use RC from abroad to call a US based phone number, do I get charged and international fee?

There would be no additional fees.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Traveling - Desktop App: Call Quality (QoS) when using Public WiFi, domestic & a.... I'm looking into using the RingCentral Desktop App more frequently.  I like to travel and have been typically taking my Yealink handset with me and using that.  Some of the locations I'd like to visit do not have a land line that will allow me to connect my handset directly to the internet.  As a result, I'm looking into using the Desktop App over Wi-Fi.

I would be using a shared WiFi connection at a hotel or something.  FYI, I'm going to be doing this both in the US and abroad.

Does anyone have experience using the desktop app over a shared internet connection?
I'm particular concerned about the call quality breaking down.  I use the phone for work and I can't have my calls sounding digital and broken up.

Thanks very much for your assistance!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled International travel. I have a Ring Central account based in the US with a US phone number. If I use my Ring Cemtral account while I am in Asia to call a US phone number (using free hotel wifi from my hotel in Asia) do I incur any additional charges (e.g. a roaming charge since I using an Asia IP address)?

Auto Glass,

The best thing to do is search Google for the specific country/area that you are curious about.  From what I can tell, it looks like Saudi Arabia is block just about all VoIP services, so I'd guess that RingCentral is blocked too.

Sometimes it is possible to use a VPN to circumvent the situation, but we can't guarantee success or any specific provider.

Perhaps someone else on this thread has a solution for Saudi Arabia.
