No application associated with "rcmobile:" protocol was found

Hi! Testing RingCentral before we switch from our current VoIP provider.

Integration with SalesForce is working. However, CTI softphone is not working properly. I can make changes to call logs, text, change settings, etc. but i cannot make calls from it. For example, when using Chrome, after entering in the phone number and pressing the green call button, nothing happens and the number disappears.

I have tried all browsers on my PC. When i try with Opera, i get this message "Unknown Protocol - Opera was unable to open the link since no application associated with "rcmobile:" protocol was found on your system"

Thanks for the help
Andy

Yes, make sure you have the "RC Phone" application downloaded on your PC.  The OpenCTI doesn't seem to work with the "RingCentral App" or "RingCentral Classic App", even though those are the default applications RingCentral is pushing you to install.  It's unclear how much support they will continue providing for RC Phone, even though that is the required app for the OpenCTI integration with Salesforce.

Couple of comments:

  • The RingCentral plugin from Salesforce will display Subject and Notes for the call that will be recorded as a Salesforce activity.  It's not obvious, but you can click the drop down link next to the Subject (usually defaults to Outbound <number>") and change it to a pre-set list of options that will be recorded as the activity title.  A nice feature that isn't obvious.
