Fax: disable fax voicemail

We have some of our clients fax our direct lines, we have it set so that we receive emails notifying us of the fax with the actual fax attached to the email. After the fax has been received and the email sent, the message center generates a voicemail (or audio notification/announcement for the picky tech support staff) stating that you have received a fax. When we see the light blink on the phone we don't know if it's an actual voicemail or just a fax notification. It's redundant because we use email notifications, annoying, and a time waster. According to tech support it's just "part of the ring central system". We need the ability to turn it off just like emails or sms notifications.

I totally agree... how long does it take to fix a major problem like this in your system?

I found the work-around to getting the blinking light to go off... go into your mobile Ring Central (not the desktop version but the mobile version) under recent calls delete the fax.  Even though I deleted it on the desktop version it stayed on because it was still listed in the mobile version.

Pearl - That is an interesting solution. Before I expend more unpaid time trying to fix this, I am wondering if that would be the case given that I have never downloaded or used the mobile version? I spend all my worktime at a desk and have a RC desk phone. In other words, to try this fix, I would need to first download, set up, etc. the mobile version on my smart phone. The red blinky light is really bugging me, so it might be worth it ... Conness

May have to treat it like an idiot light on the dashboard - just cover it in electrical tape.  Problem solved!!  LOL

At this point, I want all fax capability disabled. Who uses fax these days? Why does RC ignore this issue?

Fax is also used plenty in the mortgage industry.  I think, in the end, we will probably have to adopt a different communications provider for faxes because there are still many flaws with the RingCentral solution (cover sheets, notifications, too many incomplete faxes, etc.) and it doesn't seem to have any development priority.  It doesn't match the idea of being a "Unified Communications" provider but I guess fax is an outlier.

It is used alot in medical settings as it considered a safer way of sending medical documents. Email is not acceptable and violates various health regulations. So if ring central would figure out that fax is still widely used in the medical setting then they should realize how problematic this is for some clinics and business owners.

Ring Central - please read this. We have seriously contemplated cancelling our subscription because of the hassle that this brings to our day to day lives in clinic. And that saddens me to say because we are very happy with everything else. Please disable this fax to voicemail thing as it is pointless to have in the first place. And that fact that deleting a voicemail message deletes the actual fax? That is one of the worse design flaws I have come across in the long time. Please take our complaints seriously or I can guarantee you will start losing customers.

Ring Central, How much more feedback do you need to implement a change on this? As we are fairly new customers, your sales team is constantly contacting me for feedback and encouraging us to refer clients to RC.  I am unwilling to do this until I see that you are receptive to customer feedback, especially feedback that has been consistently relayed over 3 years!  The voicemail notification for fax is redundant and unnecessary.  PLEASE just do away with it!

Hi Saadet,
We definitely are not ignorant to the fact that it can be complicated to add/remove features. However, this request has been ongoing for many years and no one from RingCentral ever chimes in and says anything more than, "There is alot that goes into making new features or removing one..." Our frustration comes from the fact that it doesn't seem like anyone is listening, even though we are encouraged to voice our opinions regularly. Our staff at our clinic really likes RingCentral, but this fax to voicemail thing has caused so much frustration that we have considered cancelling. Being in healthcare we rely on fax as a safe way to send and receive medical documents. The fact that a fax to voicemail feature even exists is very odd. Then add on the fact that when we delete the voicemail, the fax disappears.

Hi Sara, there is a lot that goes into making a new feature or removing one and it is more complicated than it may seem from an outside perspective. We mention some things on this thread.

Hi Saadet, I don't know if this helps support or not, but the only time I have not been able to turn off the fax voicemail notification is when the user is a part of a call queue. If they are stand alone or in a ring group, checking the box "Mark message as read once emailed" has always stopped the voicemails. At least that is my experience.

I would like to up vote this feature as well. Our clients do not like receiving voicemail messages that they received a fax, which then triggers their phone to blink. They receive sometimes hundreds of faxes per day, which creates a lot of work for the receptionist to wade through to get to her voicemails.

Four years? Seriously? People have been asking for this option for four years and it hasn't been resolved? I might have made a huge mistake signing up with RC. FFS!
