Forwarding faxes to another fax number

I have a US account.  My business is a medical imaging facility.  I have ring central and there are times that when a fax comes in, I want to forward the fax to another fax number.  I cannot do that because ring central forces me to email instead.  Then, there is no record of me having sent the email.

I have entered my email address in the settings where I should be notified about emails sent from ring central, but that has not worked.  I do get notification to my email address from ring central if a fax comes in.

My suggestion is to enable users the capability of forwarding a fax to another fax recipient without having to first download the incoming fax and then making it an attachment to send it as a fax.  Currently, the only option on forwarding is email.  This would save time for all users.

In the web and computer apps, there is a forwarding option that allows you to forward to an email address - you would need to forward it back to ringcentral to fax out for you, ie. other-fax-number@rcfax.com.    This is not available in the mobile app, only the web and computer versions.  But at least you won't have to download it and reattach it to a new email.

We have a special email account in our company that we use for this that relays the fax out to the ringcentral fax service, but adds our email as a BCC so that we have a log of all the forwarded faxes.  We forward the faxes to other-fax-number@ourcompanydomain.com.  We have an email program on our server that picks up these emails and either saves a copy of the fax into a shared folder, sets a BCC email address, then sends the email to otther-fax-number@rcfax.com.  RC then faxes the fax to the new number, and the BCC (or shared folder copy) allows us to maintain a record of all forwarded faxes.

Going to open this subject up again.

Seems as though there is a lot of frustration with this issue.  My client is in a similar situation, new to Ring Central but a medical office that MUST forward all incoming Fax's to their provider Fax number.  Setting up a rule for unconditional forwarding does not work with the primary Fax number.  We are not able to e-mail an incoming FAX to the provider, they are not able to accept e-mailed Fax's on their system, which is typical for medical providers.

We need to actually do a straight forward of an incoming FAX to the provider.  Our client doesn't need a copy of the FAX nor do they need to receive the FAX at their office since their provider uses incoming FAX's to respond back to our client.

Any ideas from anybody?

Are there any updates on this feature request? It seems that a lot of customers wanted this feature.

So I have a similar situation going on here. I am the owner of a medical practice and we are currently using Verizon for my fax line and all faxes are automatically forwarded to our EMR.. which are then automatically uploaded into our Electronic Medical Records software.  I was told by the gentleman that opened up our RingCentral account that Ringcentral allows faxes to be forwarded to companies that use a CRM? Which in a is similar to an EMR, just one is dealing with Medical and the other Sales/Customer Service, etc. So does anyone know if Ring will forward my faxes to another number that is actually my EMR software company. I use AthenaHealth. Any suggestions or help would be extremely appreciated.

I need to do exactly the same things with AthenaHealth.  You would think RingCentral would be more responsive to this request.  -- Gary J Smith MD

Hey there,

I'm pretty sure they were referring to a fax integration. Check out all the fax integrations we have here. I hope one of these works for you!

Hello, Yes I have a ring central fax number and was wondering we can route it directly to AthenaHealth's fax system with no emailing inbetween?

Have any of you tried just forwarding the fax calls in "Call Handling" to your EMR number?

No. RC told me not to do that. Stated it will not work.

Sorry, your right - we tested and when RC determines that a call is an incoming fax, then "Call Handling and Forwarding" processing is skipped and the message goes directly to "Messaging Notifications"   We will retest some options that may force this to work - will let you know later today.

Once you have your EMR installed/setup, first check if has any Ringcentral integration features. If not, then normally you will obtain a fax number from the EMR system that you need to forward your faxes to. You can setup this number in your RC fax user extention call forwarding settings. NOTE, this forwarding will only work for RC fax lines that are not voice&fax lines. Technically it woll work with all RC lines, but it will forward all calls, not just fax calls. RC custom rules do not have any call-type filters (yet - hoping they will) to handle fax calls differently than voice calls.

My fax number with RC is a "dedicated" fax number. They claim they still can't do it. Very frustrating.

Interesting. Thanks for the reply. I believe my fax number serves as both a number and fax but will experiment when things go live. It may make sense just to attach my documents one by one to the respective patient charts.

Jason, we have dealt with a lot of different EMR systems and several of them also have an incoming-email feature that you can send emailed attachments to and they show up in the EMR in a queue for review and filing to the appropriate patient.  If you EMR has a similar feature, then you could setup your RC fax notifications to send emails of all your faxes to your EMR's incoming-email address.
