Desktop App: Lenovo Thinkcentre Support

I just purchased a Lenovo ThinkCentre (June 1, 2017) and tried to install RingCentral Desktop app version 8.4.5.  It would crash only moments after entering credentials.

I called into support and talked with Erwin who got it working by using version 8.0.6 along with creating an config.ini with an UpdateInterval=0

This is really a painful workaround since contact integration with Outlook is no longer functional.  This is a key component to why I chose RingCentral in the first place.

Please fix this!

This is a bug in the softphone that they haven't been able to figure out yet. It isn't consistent and doesn't happen to everyone. The new release is just weeks away and is supposed to have a fix but we shall see. Fingers crossed. This has us in a bind with our clients. The good news is that the reason you went with ring central is just the beginning. There are so many more great things than outlook contact integration. It is a fantastic service and company with great people, but it seems they are just working out some growing pain kinks as they are really starting to dominate the and gain more and more market share. You made the right choice.

We had the same issue with several other models of Lenovo ThinkCentre desktops running Windows 7 - and it was resolved by an upgrade to Windows 10 with no hardware changes required.  This may not be practical for all users with this issue, but it may be helpful for some folks who can do the upgrade.  It had to do with a custom Lenovo video chip driver in the older stock models of ThinkCentre.  Once we upgraded to Windows 10 and use their default installed drivers - everything in the current version of RingCentral for Windows worked fine.

This may indicate that RingCentral would do well to test the app on stock models of Lenovo and Dell machines before the next RingCentral for Windows release and work to debug the stock O/S image delivered with drivers as is. Many companies that order computers in large quantities use them "out of the box" as is, and leave them configured that way.  Both product lines are in wide distribution in corporate environments.  Last year our organization just switched/standardized on Dell - leaving Lenovo due to the other numerous issues with Lenovo's proprietary drivers breaking frequently. We have approx 10,000 computer workstations presently and shortly adding another 5,000 or so before July 1.

Interesting. We have had the issue with Dell. I wonder if they are sharing custom driver development. Worth looking into. Thanks!
