Desktop App: click to dial

I want to be able to call from my computer by clicking on a phone number hyperlink and having the Rincentral App open on my computer and make the call.

Just about every system I have used has click to dial from within a browser and within Outlook...not just ring out, but true remote control of the phone.  RingCentral really needs to add this feature.

I'm not sure what everybody else's setup is like, but I don't have any issues with click to dial.  Running Win10Pro, RC Windows 8.2.1, and Chrome.

I was able to click on a phone number hyperlink on a website, and a window popped for an External Protocol Request, saying that RC Windows will launch if this request is accepted.  Check the box for remembering your choice, and click Launch Application.  The phone call should start immediately after this.

Faxing works as well (might have to do the same External Protocol Request again since it's a different type of link), and it will open the Compose Fax window in RC Desktop, with the fax number you clicked already pre-filled.

As far as I know, you can't just click on any number that you see on a website or email.  The hyperlink needs to be set up properly to allow it, like so: "tel:+18008203676".  Coincidentally, I noticed when looking up that number on the RingCentral.com home page that they do not have that phone number set up like that.  As such, no matter how much I click on the phone number or the phone icon next to it, nothing happens.

Eric,

Does it dial using your computer or phone?  There is ringout which calls your number then the outbound number, but that is not true remote dialing and is not as full featured.

It dials through the softphone on my computer, I do not use the Ringout feature.  I haven't touched my desk phone for a few months, ever since I switched to the Desktop App.  It doesn't even look like the cleaners touch it because it's gathered a layer of dust.

Mine is working fine same way as Eric's.

Windows 7 Pro, running RingCentral for Windows 8.2.1 (softphone).

Firefox 48.0.2 browser. (As I recall, there may be an option that has to be selected in Firefox for this to work.)

1.  Have softphone launched and running. (Okay to have it minimized.)

2.  Click on a phone number link on a website, a "Launch Application" window pops up, lets me choose RingCentral for Windows, click on RingCentral for Windows to make that choice, click OK.

3.  Softphone dials the number.

It doesn't work for me in IE 11, as the phone numbers don't appear in that browser to be linked. Perhaps there is an option to turn on in IE 11 to allow that, but I haven't looked for it.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Desktop App: Click to Call. Hello,I think it would be very beneficial if RingCentral developed a "click-to-call" extenstion in Google Chrome. There is currently a full browser app for RingCentral, but it functions and feels different than the desktop app and can get confusing when both are on at the same time. The only browser feature our users really want is the ability to click on a phone number on the browser and have it dial through the RingCentral desktop app.Thank you,-Matt

Hi Max, a click-to-dial feature really is a must have. Have you tried using CTIs like Tenfold? It can support and integrate with RingCentral, and provide you with the click to dial feature you're looking for. It's very easy to set up and is user friendly. Check it at www.tenfold.com. Hope this helps!

This chrome extension worked for me - it was so annoying how hangouts kept trying to call my clicked numbers

This would be hilarious if it wasn't so ridiculous. The RC Phone app, which you're planning on depreciating, does this, and we must have it!
